Should You See A Doctor?
You should always see a doctor after a car accident, even if it was a minor incident. You never know how your body might have been affected, a simple whiplash can injure your neck severely. The only time you should not go to the doctors is if your only role in an accident was as a witness, and even then, it depends on how unfortunate the accident was. The reason being is those car accidents can lead you with broken bones, concussions, or even internal bleeding. If you decide to self diagnose your symptoms and what you have, there is a likelihood that your condition will worsen if not taken care of properly.
When Should You See A Doctor After Your Accident?
Honestly, seeing a doctor should be one of your main priorities after getting into a car accident. The main reason being is that your health is essential, and you do not want to get any life-changing injuries due to a lack of diagnosis. The second reason being that insurance companies typically require you to see a medical professional after an accident so that you could receive your benefits.
A typical period between the accident and seeing your doctor should be no more than 3-4 days, but you are required to go within 14 days of the car accident. Florida Statute § 627.736 states that if you do not go within 14 days of your accident, then insurance companies may decide to deny your accident claim.
Just to serve as some advice, you might be covered for up to 80% of whatever medical costs arise from your accident. This is possible because of the PIP coverage Floridians are required to have.
